3 Goldeneye, c.40 Redwing

c. 4°C, calm, some sunshine.

Fairly pleasant this morning, with lots of small birds visible for a change, though nothing new for the year.  A wren performed by the footpath early on, and then the recent drake Goldeneye (presumably the same one) was just offshore from the path just past Peanock farm.  It has some speckles/reticulations on the white spot on its face, which I presume are dirty feathers from its feeding - they are more marked today than Saturday (assuming it's the same bird).  The two f/imm Goldeneye also flew in and landed near the scout hut, and in the Pavilion Wood, around 30 or 40 Redwing were feeding in the leaf litter and flew up as I approached.  At lunchtime had a quick walk around part way where the drake Goldeneye was still present fairly close in, but nothing else of note.
