Great White Egret
Last Sunday I didn't go out and there was a Great White Egret on the reserve. In the meantime I've been every day and seen nothing resembling an Egret, so today (Sunday again) I decided to have another break, since we had a lot of garden/drive work planned. Lo and behold, a message from Andrew came through at 9:15 to say a Great White Egret was on the reserve! Needless to say I got my backside in gear and got round there sharpish. I could see the bird from the Rowing Club, and it seemed to take an age to walk around to the hide, and when I arrived I was surprised to find it empty, with the egret around 20 or 30 yards away in the channel to the left. I'd just settled down to take some photos and the bird took off and disappeared behind the trees. Anyway, long story short, it came back and performed well to all and sundry for most of the day.
I spent some time photographing it as it fed and wandered about in the channel just to the left of the hide, and having had my fill, went home a happy man. I make no apologies for the number of photos posted here!
